What to expect

Most sessions start with registration and a safety briefing on the beach or the dock, and you are given a life jacket. On a guided jet ski ride you drive your own machine behind an instructor; the 30-minute route from Umm Suqeim loops to Burj Al Arab, and the longer rides reach Atlantis. On a flyboard, a jet ski pumps water through a hose to nozzles under your feet while an instructor controls the power. For parasailing, a boat takes several flyers out at once, so allow about an hour even though your flight lasts about 10 minutes.

An e-foil is an electric board with a wing underneath that lifts it above the water. The sessions at Port de La Mer run inside a sheltered marina, which gives calm water for first attempts.

How to choose

Safety and rules

Age and weight rules differ by activity. Nemo's parasailing takes solo flyers from 16 and children from 5 with an adult, within 45 to 150 kg. The Seamocean e-foil lesson needs swimmers aged 14 or over, up to 95 kg, and excludes pregnant guests and people with back, neck or heart problems. Blue Ocean Sports asks kitesurfers to be at least 12, weigh at least 40 kg and swim well. Several operators do not publish age limits or cancellation terms, so ask before you pay.

Practical tips

  • Wind decides a lot. Nemo warns that parasailing can stop about five days a month in winter, surf depends on wind-driven waves, and kitesurfing needs steady wind.
  • Check the pricing unit: jet skis are priced per machine, the donut and wakeboard boats per session, and lessons usually per person.
  • Arrive about 15 minutes early, and bring a towel, sunscreen, sunglasses with a strap and dry clothes.
  • Kitesurf School Dubai credits weather cancellations to your package rather than refunding cash.
