Where to stay in Dubai

Where you stay shapes your trip more than the hotel itself: travel times across Dubai are long, so pick the area that matches what you want to do, then the hotel. Here is how the main areas compare, and the hotels our editors recommend in each.

We don’t sell tickets or tours. Prices and details come from the operators’ and venues’ own websites, with the date we checked them. How we work

How to choose where to stay

Start with the plan for your days. If most of your list is in Downtown Dubai and the older districts along the Creek, staying there saves an hour or more of taxis each day. If you want to spend afternoons on the beach, the Marina, JBR and the Palm are the natural bases, and the metro and tram cover the trip into town.

Compare the total price, not only the nightly rate. Dubai hotels add a Tourism Dirham fee per room and night, usually paid at the hotel, and some add service charges or resort fees. The booking page shows what is included before you pay.

For short stays and early flights, the areas closest to the airport, such as Deira, make the transfer quick. Our guides to Dubai’s neighbourhoods describe each area in more detail.

Frequently asked questions

Which area is best for a first visit to Dubai?

Downtown Dubai puts the Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall and the fountain within walking distance and has a metro station. Dubai Marina and JBR suit travellers who want the beach and an evening promenade.

Is the Tourism Dirham fee included in hotel prices?

Often not. Dubai hotels charge a Tourism Dirham fee per room and night, which is usually paid at the hotel. The amount depends on the hotel category; check it on the booking page or with the hotel before you pay.

How far are the hotel areas from the airport?

Deira and Downtown Dubai are the closest to Dubai International Airport (DXB), usually under half an hour by taxi outside rush hour. Dubai Marina and the Palm take longer. Travel times on this page are approximate.
