Dhow and dinner cruises in Dubai

A dinner cruise is an evening out on the water with a buffet on board. You can sail on a traditional wooden dhow along Dubai Creek or through Dubai Marina, or pick a modern yacht with a DJ and drinks packages. The cruises below differ mostly in length, route, entertainment and whether transfers are included.

What to expect

All four cruises listed here are shared evening trips with a buffet dinner and soft drinks in the ticket. You board at a fixed pier, eat while the boat moves slowly past the waterfront, and return to the same berth. On the Alexandra Dhow, the Creek cruise and the Lotus Royale, alcohol costs extra or comes with a paid drinks package.

On Dubai Marina cruises you look up at the towers of the Marina and JBR. The Lotus Royale megayacht also heads out, weather permitting, past Ain Dubai, Bluewaters Island, Palm Jumeirah and Atlantis. On the Dubai Creek cruise the route runs between Deira and Bur Dubai, past the old souks, the wind-tower houses of Al Fahidi and the abras crossing the water.

How to choose

  • Lowest price: the Alexandra Dhow in Dubai Marina costs AED 150 per adult and children go free, but it only sails on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
  • Old Dubai and hotel pickup: the Creek cruise is the only one here with transfers in the ticket, and the operator says its dhows are wheelchair accessible. There is no live show.
  • Short trip with your own table: the Xclusive Yachts cruise lasts 90 minutes, with a sunset sailing at 17:00 and a dinner sailing at 20:30.
  • Longest evening and unlimited drinks: the Lotus Royale sails for three hours and sells soft-drink, house-drink and premium-drink tickets.

Prices on the Creek cruise are set in US dollars and converted, so the AED amount can move slightly. Children's rates also differ: under-3s travel free on the Lotus Royale and Xclusive cruises, and children go free with an adult on the Alexandra Dhow.

Practical tips

  • Arrive early. The Lotus Royale leaves at 19:30 sharp and late guests cannot board, and Xclusive does not refund guests who miss a shared cruise. Marina traffic is often heavy in the evening.
  • Upper-deck seats on the Creek cruise cannot be reserved and go to whoever boards first. Xclusive sells upper-deck seats for an extra charge.
  • Alexandra Dhow suggests smart casual clothing.
  • Cancellation terms vary: free up to 24 hours before on the Alexandra, Creek and Xclusive cruises. The Lotus Royale booking page does not state a policy, so ask before you pay.
  • For Xclusive, the nearest metro station is DMCC; there are no transfers.
